This activity reflects ZEST’s strong commitment to knowledge transfer and fostering collaboration with the research community, key drivers for innovation and sustainable growth.

A group of PhD candidates in Food Microbiology from Wageningen University visited the Danish Technological Institute (DTI), coordinator of the ZEST project consortium, to delve into the project’s objectives, structure, and innovative work plan.

The session was led by Jolanda ter Horst, Consultant at DTI, who presented a comprehensive overview of ZEST and shared updates on the progress made since its official launch in June 2025. The students, whose academic research aligns closely with ZEST’s scope, were particularly interested in the project’s unique strategy: the development of a scale-flexible, AI-controlled fermentation system designed to produce sustainable protein ingredients for the food and pet food industries, alongside valuable by-products for cosmetics.

The visit also provided the students with insights into the operational side of EU-funded research, emphasizing the importance of sound project management in achieving both scientific impact and regulatory compliance.

This activity reflects ZEST’s strong commitment to knowledge transfer and to fostering collaboration with the research community, key drivers for innovation and growth within the bioeconomy.
