Partners continue to explore strategic synergies with research centres and EU projects to boost knowledge sharing, market uptake and regulatory alignment.
Building strong synergies with other European projects and key actors in the bioeconomy and alternative proteins ecosystem is at the core of the ZEST project’s work plan. This collaborative approach is essential to maximise impact, foster innovation and ensure that research outcomes translate more rapidly into industrial, market and policy-relevant solutions at both national and European level.
ITG research centre and Plantomyc project
Recent actions reflecting this strategy include a visit by representatives of ITG, the Spanish research centre specialised in R&D and Industry 4.0, to the facilities of the project coordinator, Danish Technological Institute. The meeting enabled technical exchanges and the identification of new opportunities for collaboration in advanced bioprocesses and industrial scale-up.
In parallel, ZEST held a dedicated working session with the European project PLANTOMYC, focused on regulatory and legal aspects critical for the sector’s development. Discussions covered the development of a roadmap for novel food approval of strains, the creation of a decision tree to identify and select suitable fungal species, the exchange of knowledge on feedstock–fungi combinations, the exploration of business opportunities in pet food, the establishment of an open innovation platform, and plans for a joint final conference.
Through these targeted collaborations, ZEST reinforces its role as a connector within the European alternative proteins ecosystem, helping to build more resilient, competitive and sustainable value chains aligned with EU strategic priorities.
